Hamster Food

Most hamsters will require one tablespoon of specially formulated hamster nuggets a day; however, this can depend on the species of hamster you have and how active they are. There are feeding guidelines on all of our packaging that you can follow. In addition to hamster nuggets, you can also provide them with safe, fresh vegetables a couple of times a week in small amounts. However, be aware that too much fresh food can give your hamster a runny tummy!

The best hamster pellets, such as our Burgess Hamster, Gerbil, and Mouse nuggets, are small enough for tiny mouths and include a range of nutritional ingredients to support their health. With the right amount of protein, vitamins, and minerals, our specially designed nuggets provide the ideal healthy hamster food when fed as part of a balanced hamster diet.

The best time to feed a hamster is in the evening when they start to wake up. Because hamsters are nocturnal, this is technically their breakfast time! 

While hamsters’ behaviour is endearing, it does mean that it’s very easy to overfeed them. The food you put out for them might quickly disappear, but beware, as the chances are they haven’t eaten it but have hidden it away. A hamster’s cheek pouch can extend all the way down to their hips, so don’t be fooled by an empty dish!

Untreated softwood such as hawthorn, hazelnut, pear, poplar, or apple wood are good things for hamsters to chew. They can help to keep their teeth healthy and prevent them from getting overgrown. Cardboard, coconut shells, pumice stones, and seagrass are also good alternatives.

A healthy hamster can usually survive for around 2-4 days without food, especially if they have some hoarded supplies. However, it is not recommended to leave your furry friend without a meal, and they should always have access to fresh food and, most importantly, water. If you’re going away for more than a day, it’s highly recommended to have someone check on your hamster and replenish their food and water.
